Stress in Your Head Affects the
Health of Your Heart
Stress can shut down an athlete from achieving their maximum success. Our athletes bring into the room a past history of trauma that is unavoidable on this side of eternity. A coach is positioned to help address the roadblocks that their athletes are facing outside of the training and gymnasium.
Research is discovering the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s).
The impact on your health and well being can be uncovered through discovering
your ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) score.
Stress in Your Head Affects the Health of Your Heart.
What ever your score, you are more than a statistic. Your score does not get to define you. Hope is greater than despair.
My ACE’s score 8 out of ten. I should be twisted up inside, riddled with disease, depressed and
hopeless locked in a prison of despair.
ACE’s score, what does it
Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACE Study) uncovered a stunning
link between childhood trauma and the chronic diseases people develop as
adults, as well as social and emotional problems. This includes heart disease, lung cancer, diabetes and many autoimmune
diseases, as well as depression, violence, being a victim of violence, and
The studies showed that:
Childhood trauma was very common, There was a direct link
between childhood trauma and adult onset of chronic disease, as well as
depression, suicide, being violent and a victim of violence; The more types of trauma, increased the risk of health, social and emotional
problems. People usually experience more than one type of trauma
The study’s researchers came up with an ACE score to explain a person’s
risk for chronic disease. You get one point for each type of trauma. The higher your ACE score,
the higher your risk of health & social problems. As your ACE score increases, so does the risk of disease, social and
emotional problems. With an ACE score of 4 or more, things start getting serious. The likelihood of chronic pulmonary lung disease increases 390 percent;
hepatitis, 240 percent; depression 460 percent; suicide, 1,220 percent.
Trauma has an impact on our athletes. Stress in Your Head Affects the Health of Your Heart. Our athletes performance is affected by the trauma they have experienced long before they may have stepped into the training room.
Discovering significance. Hope is greater than despair.
The Bible says that we all are significant because we are created in
the image of God. All people have
intrinsic worth. ACEs study says that when people understand this truth they can find
healing. As a coach, how can we help our athletes discover their worth? My passion, as a coach, is to help my student athletes discover their
significance, purpose and worth.
How did I find way through the pain of my past?
How did I not let an 8 out of 10 ACE’s score predict my present future?
Listen: My past was deeply affecting my present. The stress in my head was affecting the health of my heart. Then I heard the Coach of my life speak to me. I heard God say. “Dan, I love you.” I found significance. I encountered this truth, I am loved by the Creator and my past could stay in the past. I found a hope beyond my pain. And hope is greater than despair.
Discovering my significance, purpose and worth transformed my mind. I am now a prisoner of Hope…Not despair. AND Hope is greater than despair! My Ace’s score does not predict my future.
I breathe out confusion – I breathe in truth
I breathe out fear – I breathe in hope
I am a prisoner of HOPE!
I have found life beyond my past
I lay down my weakness – I take on a strength greater than my own
I lay down my defenses – I step into victory.
Resentment, depression and all anxieties
They have no more power over me
Addictions, strongholds and every disease
They have no more power over me
My fears and failings no longer define my future
I now have an eternal hope.
